Have you found yourself stepping up into a leadership role and struggling with assertiveness?
Assertiveness is about stating what you need in a calm, respectful manner whilst understanding the needs of others. It’s all about “NEED”. For you to be assertive and get what you need, does not mean the other person has to lose. It is often about finding that win-win situation.
For example, if a colleague continuously arrives late to meetings, state that you need them to be on time.
“I notice that you have been arriving late to meetings and I need you to arrive on time for the smooth running of the project. This cannot continue, what do you need to ensure you are here on time?”
It takes practice and a change in your behaviour might not be readily accepted. Don't take responsibility for how people react to your assertiveness.
